Welcome to Lilleshall Hall Golf Club
Lilleshall Hall Golf Club, once described in the press as the Pine Valley of England, is a private club established in 1937. The members are fortunate to enjoy their golf in a sylvan setting, quietly tucked away in rolling Shropshire countryside untroubled by traffic noise or urban encroachment. Picturesque, relatively flat and easy walking make it a popular favourite with visiting golfers.
The Duke of Sutherland decided to build his new family home, Lilleshall Hall, here in the 1820's. In earlier times, twelfth century monks settled nearby and the ruins of their Norman abbey (once one of the finest in the county) can still be seen just along the road from the course.
The 5813 yard course is set in 165 acres 500 feet above sea level and is characterised by its tight fairways cutting through mature trees and the small, fast, undulating and tricky greens. Conceived by the world renowned Harry S Colt, Lilleshall Hall Golf Club is in fact one of about 300 courses worldwide designed, developed or amended by this most famous of golf course architects. Other notable courses associated with Harry Colt include Wentworth, Woodhall Spa, Sunningdale and Royal St George's. With only minor alterations over the intervening seven decades Lilleshall Hall Golf Club still quite clearly bears his hallmark.
This timeless rural environment makes for an unrivalled setting in which to play golf. Accuracy and a sound putting stroke are required to achieve a good round with water coming into play on several holes. Played by many well known professionals such as Sam Torrance, Sandy Lyle, Ian Woosnam & Peter Baker yet never mastered.
Thank you for visiting our website. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you in person at Lilleshall very soon.
