Lady captain match ‘vs’ Hawkstone Park GC

Lilleshall Hall Ladies played Hawkstone Park Ladies in friendly match on 14th May, 2012. Five four balls, playing four ball better ball, teed off at 10.30a.m. We were lucky to play in dry weather for once, and the course played very well…. The Lilleshall pairs who won their matches were Lady Captain Gill and Lady Vice Helen, Sue Parker and Chris Downing, Jayne Sandford and Margaret Shanks, Barbara Waddington and Heather Doody, Margaret Hopkins and Elaine Gee halved their matches. A very pleasing win – well done to all who played.

Captains Match 4 – Away to Beau Desert GC – Saturday 12 May 2012

What can I say about yesterday other than a fantastic course, fantastic people and long may this fixture last between these two great clubs !! Arriving at 12.00 midday we were greeted to a walm welcome by Captain Bob of Beau Desert GC. Weather was great, course looked fantastic and we were up for a stern test of golf against a strong Beau outfit. Captain Bob and playing partner Mike came out firing and soon found themselves 5 up after 6 holes and to be honest we could do nothing about this as were only 1 over gross ourselves to that point. Staring a big defeat in the face we managed to rally back stem the flow by both parring hole 7, I then birdied 8 and Phil hit a great drive on the 9th to ten feet which lead to a further birdie to make the turn 2 down – a little more respectable. We both had opportunities at the 10th but never took them but did win hole 11, half 12, half 13 and win hole 14 to square the match up. Mike then hit a great par nett birdie on 15 and also winning hole 16 made it dormie 2 and with Bob stroking down 17 making a steady 5 nett 4 secured the win for the Beau Desert side – but what a great match played in the right spirit. This was followed by an excellent meal which all enjoyed, Beau Desert were the perfect hosts and we look forward to entertaining them in May 2013 at our fantastic venue. Many thanks to all the players from both Beau Desert and Lilleshall Hall for supporting this fixture, one to remember.

Shropshire Star Team Challenge 09 May 2012

Today we took a team over to Bridgnorth GC to play in the Shropshire Star Team Challenge and although we did not manage to bring home the spoils, I had a totally enjoyable time with Andrew Morgan, Jason Pethard and Alan “Shankin’ Stevens” Smith.

The weather held fine until the last few holes so we got away with that and in patches we all played some tidy golf.

Many thanks to my playing partners for representing the club today, great company and setting us up nicely for our match away to Beau Desert at the weekend.

For those who are wondering where Alan’s nickname has come from, well !! the bright red trousers he turned up in set the tone from something from the 70′s hence the name “Shakin Stevens Smith” was born and the shank he almost took a Patshull Park player out with on the 18th hole contributed to the name sticking – what a great sport for brightening up our day in more than one way – thanks Alan !!

Amazingly the weather held out for us and we all managed to avoid the rain. Course was in fantastic condition, and allbeit a little wet in places which is to be expected,the Shifnal team held the course in high regard – although the wind did play a big part in making the course long in places. Great company to play with captain David and vice captain Bob from Shifnal and look forward to the mixed tri-match in a few weeks time. Many thanks to all the Lilleshall Hall players who played this match. Great meal was had from Mischa and enjoyable day was had. Overall result LHGC 7 Shifnal 1

Captains Match 2 – Tri Match vs Ludlow & Shifnal – 22 April 2012

Always a great fixture in our Lilleshall calendar, the annual tri-match with our close friends Ludlow and Shifnal.

Well represented, we travelled over to Ludlow nice and early, arriving there at 11.30am.

Vice captain Phil had assembled a team containing many past captains with some new blood upholding the traditions of the club.

We had a cracking match against Ludlow captain David and his partner Mike, playing off 9 and 3 handicap and went right down to the last hole where Mike hit a fantastic iron into a foot to ensure the Ludlow lads took the spoils 1 up. It was great golf and great company and look forward to the return match at Lilleshall early June.

Lilleshall managed to total 8 points and from this paid for the port but with great banter on the speeches I reckon I pulled a few points back for us – apologies to the Shifnal captain, David for using him in my joke – good fun and well received.

The match was followed by a fantastic meal as always, many thanks to all at Ludlow for hosting this great event.
