The Drive-In: Sunday 11th December 2011

Started off with an oyster stout to calm the nerves at 10.15am as the banter was going around the club very quickly. Would I block it, top it (Mr Vice Captain’s thoughts !!) hook it, who knows. Luckily for me, straight down the middle like a bullet to comments from the hargrove team captain, where’s that drive been all year !! Closely followed by Gill Preece also hitting it down the middle and ready to relax and enjoy the rest of the proceedings.

Shotgun start at 11am for 25 teams – great turnout and many many thanks to all that organised and played in the event – this made it all worth while. Although the weather was very wet and cold, some good golf was played in patches and winning score came from Jason Pethard, Lee Buttery, Mark Williams and Will Schofiled – well played lads in scooping the first prize. Winners in the mixed team event were headed up by Alan & Margo Semple, my god Alan, Margo must have played well to carry you again? Our team was lucky enough to grab second prize and win a bottle of wine for our efforts – congratulations to all winners.

Fantastic food as usual from Mischa’s followed by carols with the pianist but the night was stolen by the return of Bobby B after years off the professional circuit. I must say many thanks to both my parents for putting on a great show and making this event special, they got the club rocking with some old favourites that even the past captain and wife graced the dance floor – thanks John & Anne. I think Bobby B has even secured some future bookings at the club so all get ready for the captain’s social where I believe the strollers will also be present – fingers crossed – that will be a great event.
